SEEKING: Direction of Development & Marketing

IN Series seeks a DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT & MARKETING with demonstrated strong executive skills, adynamic leader with a passion for the arts and the impact of art on the lives of the community. The Director of Development & Marketing serves as a key position in the IN Series staff team, designing and implementing the resource acquisition strategy of the organization, both through donated and earned revenue streams. Working closely with Artistic Director Timothy Nelson, Chief of Operations Luz Segura, and the IN Series Board of Directors, the  Director of Development & Marketing  is charged with enabling IN Series to realize its goals for artistic innovation and excellence, community service and justice seeking arts practices, visibility through programmatic and institutional marketing, financial stability, fundraising, and audience engagement. A major part of this charge is ensuring IN Series works successfully towards the targets laid out in its current strategic plan, and in subsequent strategic plans. Within this collaborative partnership, the  Director of Development & Marketing  is responsible for rendering the Artistic Director’s vision into practicable initiatives that are financially sound and supported, and which galvanize the board, staff and extended community behind it.

The Director of Development an Marketing is a key team leader of IN Series, working closely and collaboratively with the Artistic Director to imagine and realize the long-term artistic and institutional identity of this one-of-a-kind organization.

Responsibilities include:

1) Development

a. In collaboration with the Artistic Director, plan and manage all development and fundraising programs

b. Provide leadership to IN Series staff, Development Committee, and larger Board of Directors to create and carry out fundraising plans and meet financial development goals

c. Create and manage multiple Annual Campaigns

d. With collaboration of the Artistic Director, direct and lead institutional fundraising with foundations, corporations and government agencies – including prospecting, cultivation, grant writing, stewardship, and grant calendar oversite.

e. Oversee communication with donors and patrons when it relates to fundraising or institutional advancement, ensuring best practices are being used in stewarding our patrons

f. Cultivate relationships with donors through presence at performances, events, and extra-social engagement.

g. Oversee the patron database and ensure that best practices are being used in recording and analyzing data

h. With the IN Series Events Committee and Artistic Director,oversee and realize and annual cadence of fundraising and donor cultivation events, including IN Series’ Annual Gala

i. Ensure a thoughtful and intentional individual giving strategy for each donor from cultivation through stewardship.

 

2) Marketing and PR

a. With the Artistic Director and Chief of Operations, oversee creating and realizing both the programmatic and institutional marketing of IN Series

b. Ensure brand fidelity, cohesion, and consistency

c. Take ultimate responsibility for the earned revenue success ofthe organization through individual, group, package, and other ticket salesapproaches, as well as additional earned income strategies

d. Ensure the vitality and success of IN Series subscriptionpackages and programs

e. Work with Bucklesweet Media or other PR third-party contractorsto oversee relationships and communications with media outlets and partners

f. Create and maintain relationships with partner organizations tosupport robust ticket sales and program attendance more broadly

 

3) External Relations

a. Serve as a key representative of IN Series in the community, including cultivation of donors, funding institutions, government agencies, partner organizations, perspective stakeholders or gamechangers in IN Series’ institutional life

b. Represent IN Series in communication with external agencies that have the power to govern or influence financial or administrative demands within our industry (theater and opera)

c. Provide additional support for and attend meetings, fundraisers, events, celebrations, opening nights, various performances, etc.

 

4) Board Relations

a. Work with the Artistic Director to support the development and effective operations of the Board of Directors

b. Work with the Board President and Artistic Director to identify need for committees and prioritize work of the Board

c. Provide bi-monthly written reports to Board

d. Work, with Artistic Director and current Board of Directors, togrow the Board through active Board cultivation and recruitment

e. Serve as staff liaison for Finance and Development Committees of the Board of Directors

 

Reporting: The Director of Development &Marketing reports to the IN Series Artistic Director, and works closely with the IN Series Board of Directors, and the Chief of Operations. The Director of Development participates in and is evaluated through an annual review conducted by the Artistic Director and member(s) of the IN Series Board of Directors.

 

Rate and Schedule: This is a full time, salaried position. This role can have flexible in-office hours each week, but does require many nights and weekends with presence expected for a plurality of performances and events, as well as cultivation opportunities.

 

The ideal candidate will:

Combine demonstrated business acumen with strong management skills.

Have passion for theater, opera, and blended live arts experiences, as well as the vision to design and execute IN Series resource development in the short, intermediate and long-term to help IN Series realize the goals of its current Strategic Plan

Be an extremely charismatic communicator with the ability to establish long-lasting, productive relationships with the Board, staff and community of patrons and funders

Be a kind and committed  of team member, encouraging and motivating staff and board to realize their innate creative potential

Have demonstrated ability to generate earned income and philanthropic support and a passion for organizational development

Be organized, clear, patient, energetic, resilient, and passionate

 

Qualification Requirements:

A bachelor degree in arts or arts management

A masters degree in business, arts management, or non-profit administration, or commiserate work experience is preferred.

Minimum of either 3 years experience in a non-profit arts organization of similar size or 5 years experience in marketing or development with organizations of greater size

Significant experience interacting with Boards, volunteers and funders

Experience building revenue and philanthropic support, including through individual giving and institutional fundraising

COMPENSATION,TIMETABLE AND PROCEDURE:

The Managing Director is a full-time exempt and at will employee. Compensation will be between $65,000 and $72,000 annually, commensurate with experience, plus benefits package. IN Series is an equal opportunity employer.
