THE M.A.K.A.DO Director’s Salons
Before THE M.A.K.A.DO: Make America Kingly Again! takes the stage, IN Series invites audiences inside the creative process with two special Director’s Salons in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore.
Our Director’s Salons are designed to happen before audiences encounter the finished production, opening a window onto the ideas, methods, histories, and conversations that shape the work. These gatherings offer a chance to hear directly from the artists, ask questions, experience musical excerpts and possible readings from the new libretto, and discover how a historical work like Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Mikado is transformed into something that speaks urgently and playfully to the present.
For THE M.A.K.A.DO, Artistic Director and Stage Director Timothy Nelson leads a creative team that includes Dana Scott, Musical Director; Paul Callahan, Lighting Designer; and William Linares, Costume Designer, alongside new English texts by Bari Biern. Members of the artistic and design team will join us at the Salons to speak about the process and the choices behind the production.
These evenings are also about community: bringing artists and audiences together before opening night, creating a deeper understanding of how theater is made, and inviting everyone into the conversation that sits at the heart of IN Series’ work.
