ST JOHN THE BAPTIST
From the pen of one of the most audacious, salacious, and extraordinary composers ever to live, Alessandro Stradella, comes this 17th century version of the biblical Salome story. With new English text by Bari Biern, this oratorio is every bit as compelling, gruesome, and at once horrifying and intoxicating as the Oscar Wilde play written over two centuries later, Written as a concert work, this production marks the first time Stradella’s masterpiece is brought to life on the stage.
THE DELTA KING’S BLUES

The first full opera commissioned by IN Series, The Delta King’s Blues celebrates the life and legend of blues icon Robert Johnson through an electrifying new work by composer Damien Geter and librettist Jarrod Lee.
Blending blues and classical traditions, this immersive “blues opera” imagines the Faustian bargain that gave birth to America’s original music in a production that sings, dances, laughs, mourns, and ultimately celebrates the enduring spirit of the blues.

PASSIO
Traditionally, passion narratives are about suffering, sacrifice, and transformation, usually centered around one hero or savior, but Passio is a concert-in-motion where the passion story takes a different turn: that of polyphony. We meet survivors, pioneers, and creators who reveal often unheard stories of resilience and transformation based on interviews with the musicians themselves. Created and produced by Lucie de Saint Vincent and Maribeth Diggle in collaboration with Alejandra Borzyk, Laïla Amezian, Rajna Swaminathan, Tina Chancey, Gaia Saitta, & Joyce J. Scott.
FOR WOMEN SERVING TIME
Poet & scholar Fatemeh Keshavarz and pianist & composer Adrienne Torf make a new piece of opera-theater that fuses Faure’s Requiem, jazz elements, and Brechtian theatrical traditions in a contemplation of the lives and resilience of women in the U.S. prison system, their hopes, dreams, fears, and day to day experiences, offering a voice to a population often overlooked.
THE SONG OF SAKUNTALA
One of the most celebrated productions of the season, The Song of Sakuntala is Artistic Director Timothy Nelson’s mesmerizing world premiere inspired by the ancient Indian epic.
The opera weaves together Indian classical and Western baroque musical traditions into a luminous meditation on love, memory, longing, forgiveness, and destiny.
Described by critics as “an utterly unique experience” and “daringly complex and dangerously hypnotic,” The Song of Sakuntala is an unforgettable artistic journey.
